Project Management Training: New Paradigms
A project is defined as any assignment which has a fixed beginning and a definite end. In today's society, most work is based on project methodology. It would thus be imperative that we develop an understanding of projects and management tools and methods used in order to meet the project requirements. Management, technology, etc, are just a small portion of Projack Management training. Projects may involve all these areas, thus project management training must include training across the domains.
Taking the case of a software development project. Only after a proper explanation is provided will the project be initiated. For this to occur, there must be a legitimate requirement for the outcome being desired to be project result. Planning for the project begins with understanding the requirements. The business analyst handling that client/relationship sets forth the requirements in a software development project. Using cases, the requirements necessitate to be tested. A variety of requirements analysis software is obtainable in the market. Once the requirements have been determined and documented appropriately, the next stage of project management begins.
Project management involves allocation of resources. Resources are cost centers as well. Therefore, a good project is one which utilizes some or all of its resources to derive the maximum contribution they can provide. Project Management involves use of timelines for managing the resources. Many project managers prefer to use project management template to obtain the desired objectives. Such templates are designed in worksheet software applications. Therefore, project management training must include hands-on training on worksheet processing software.
A project should be a two way communication during its life cycle. Feedback part is very important for the project managers to understand its current status. Future project planning is affected by current status of the project. So training in project management should include hands - on training on communication tools used in the particular project. Such training is highly rewarding. Besides mail software training there is much more that is offered by communication training. During course of any project you must emphasize relevance of routine check - ups.
Human capital is a part of any project. Resources have to be used in such a way that the project objectives are met by carrying out tasks in a logical manner. This is resource allocation. Lessons on human organizational behavior, costing and human resource management should be an intricate part of project management training. Also sessions on quality, value engineering, and theory of constraints should be a part of this. These lessons are not just to be read and forgotten but must be inculcated as principles for all projects. Hence every project management training should include problems which can be solved by applying basic principles or points from the training sessions.
Recently, some trainers have started illustrating project management concepts by using specially designed computer games. The essence of these games lies in their approach of involving the learner to use project management technology. These games are focussed in their approach towards training of project management concepts. Course assessments can be used to appraise the results of such game based training. We can safely sum up that training should not involve only teaching of traditional project management philosophies but also have the involvement of the learner,by having him perform tasks using the project management technology.
