The SpyWARE Who Came In From The Cold

by Ron Rogers

My friend is a fisherman, at least that's what he daydreams about, on a day to day basis he fixes small networks and does an exceptional job and has garnered a fine reputation. When I have a personal computer dilemma, Jody is the one I dial and no matter how hard or intricate the problem, give him some time and he'll find the solution. He mentioned something disquieting last week, it seems that 80% of the computers he looks into have spyware or adware on their systems, and many his customers are uninformed of it; calling him when their systems slow or stall.

The world wide web is analogous to a living, breathing organism forever evolving, and not always in a helpful path, though it surely has given me a career and income. As the days flow and expertise moves forward, so also does spyware. It is critical in today's environment to have Spyware Removal software on your system and to schedule scans on a regualr basis; essential is running software updates, because what worked yesterday might jump over a virus or spywarecreated today.

As a test for this musing (but not using this system) I ran a test, turning OFF any spyware removal software then purposedly visiting several traffic trade sites. These surfing sites are ideal for new internet marketers, providing them the ability to deliver people to their sites, simply by their visiting and looking at different sites. They work like this:

A person visits a particular site and receives credits for looking at the site These credits are allocated to a particular site. Then When someone else surfs, your website is offered for review. The system is designed so everyone gets a look at someone elses site.

This allows anyone to quickly send traffic to their sites, there are some that (not all) of these surfing sites are either part of a larger entity or visited by marketers who are less than honest. Their intent is not to merely display their offer or website, but to lead you to install spyware on your system. And today much of this spyware is intelligient enough to start the download of spyware onto your system, as easily as looking at their innocent looking site. I'm not knocking these sites or suggesting that all are bad, I am suggesting caution and suggesting you be confident your system is secure.

If you're reading this, experienced people say you may already have or will soon be infected by spyware or adware. If you are wondering, well I don't visit those kinds of sites and I certainly don't download tainted software, then congratulations, but you are still at risk. Take the safeguard and secure yourself your system. Take heed of the old expression...

'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'

You must be the one to take the protective measures. There is a lot of your data, either from your job or privacy concerns; think of getting up to discover all your files erased. Frightening, positively... Possible?... Yes. Preventable? You bet by installing the best spyware removal programs.

Now that I have your attention, perhaps you're wondering what exactly will spyware and adware do to my system. Good, glad to see you're thinking. For the most part spyware/adware/malware are not were not coded to erase files, but silent reporters. Collecting datathen reporting back to a database somewhere; the spyware sometimes will initiate advertisements and they most certainly can choke your computer, slow your processor and diminish your connection to the world wide web. It's not so much the damage done, but the fact that your life, your privacy, your system has been breached and these people (whomever they are) have no right to be there.

The net is a safer place because there are intelligent men and women that feel precisely the way I feel; meaning they are willing to do something about it. I can't write code, My skill is writing, and I submit these thoughts to give fair warning and recommend you take precautions and defend your PC. I thank those programmers with the skill and heart to code and make available these top notch spyware removal tools.

Once you decide on which spyware/malware programs to use, I'd suggest frequent scans of your home computer. If you set up the spyware removal tool properly, you'll find it does most of the grunt work automatically, and most likely while you're asleep.
